Magazine Analysis

Supernatural horrors are getting more popular in today's world and that's is why my group have decided to base our horror movie on this sub-genre. Also I personally enjoy all aspects of the genre and so will find it extremely interesting to work with. It would also be interesting and challenging to make which we found to be fun.

More Genre research

It is common for a supernatural horror to be set in the home of the protagonist. Locations could vary and take place in school or somewhere rather creepy, it depends on the narrative of the film but the horror is set at the places that are close to the protagonist. So this could be at their school, in their garden, in the car and other places, but mainly at the characters house. A supernatural presence isn’t easily accepted by a person, and it is not something that one can escape from or fight against, this is what makes this subgenre so terrifying and intriguing. Supernatural horrors are set in people’s homes because it promotes the fear of something unwanted and unfriendly entering your own personalspace, making you feel frightened in the one place designed to make a person feel comforted and safe.

The world of the ‘supernatural’ such as ghosts, spirits, curses etc, is a subject that some marvel at, whilst others disregard as ‘make-believe’, it cannot scientifically be defined as true. In order to balance out the ‘make-believe’ with reality, this type of horror is set in a person’s home to establish common ground with the viewer, making the narrative seem more realistic.

Examples of supernatural horror films.
What Lies Beneath - While others believe her to becoming delusional, a woman is convinced that ghosts haunt her house.
Poltergeist - A ghost haunts a suburban home and kidnaps one of the children through the television set.
Ghost - After a man is murdered, he tries to communicate with his wife through a psychic.

The films we have looked at as a group as we are basing it mainly on the film called Tamara which stars Jenna Dewan Tatum.
